Decision Making in the Laboratory
If we really want to understand decision making, we have to get out t of the laboratory and watch what people are doing in real world settings. Let me give you an example from my own work with fire fighters. We wanted to know how could fire fighters make life and death decision is under extreme time pressure. And so as a result of our interviews, we found that what they were doing was building on 20 some o years of experience. When they encountered a situation, there would be a pattern matching process.
