The Power of Persuasion
Persuasion seems rather applicable to the passions and argument to the reason, but this is not always observed. Maybe our motives in persuading them are impure, or maybe we're convinced we're right when we're not. And maybe we resort to tactics designed to interfere with their own good judgment. In another passage in Paradise Regained, Milton says of Satan the tempter, "The persuasive rhetoric that sleeked his tongue"
