The Mysticism of Russian Culture

I think communism feeds off of that mysticism, feeds off of a religious sensibility, a religious sense. So when the Berlin Wall came down, and the Soviet Union broke up, the mysticism of Russian culture sustained itself. You can see by the kind of rhetoric that comes out from the intellectuals in Russia, the extent to which they are still mystics. They believe in the spirit of the Russian people,. Many of them, many of them, at least at the leadership position,  believe this because they needed an oath to sustain power. Whether they really believe it, doesn't really matter. It's what makes them special and unique.
