Pluck one thread of that web and the sound could be heard hundreds or even thousands of miles away. Worlds are made by people, but people can also unmake them. Those connections are contingent and fragile. It's not necessarily a boon to stability when it relies on so many different pieces and so many different places all functioning more or less smoothly.
