When they first started the polering process, the land was originally planned to be an industrial site. It would turn out that the western edge was particularly difficult to lay dry. So all kinds of efforts were made to speed up this process. Airplanes were used to sew reed, which act like little biological pumps,. evaporating it, drying up the soil it grows on. But planting all those reeds had a side effect. Thousands of gray la gees who were pausing on their tracks from siberia had taken to feasting on the stuff. And so began an experiment which fundamentally challenged the field of ychology and continues to influence the way we perceive and manage nature.
