The Aztecs were carrying out human sacrifice on an industrialized scale. The Catholic church at that time was burning people at the stake in the name of their God, which is a purely an act of human sacrifice and nothing else. I think that people just, the way we're sacrificing people these days might seem a little more chaotic, but it's human sacrifice nonetheless.
