The Queen Charlotte Prequel to Bridgerton

Bridgerton is deeply rooted in Georgette higher Regency romance novels. In that series, the character of Queen Charlotte is absolutely and unapologetically a woman of color. A lot of this hula-blue came from a historian in the 1980s named Mario de Valdez Eko-Kom who traced Queen Charlotte's ancestry first to Margarita de Castro,. That just means that she was from a Muslim country. The show isn't trying to trick you at all.
