Sex Workers in the Temples of Aphrodite

Aphrodite was considered to be the goddess who kept an eye on sex workers and was their patron. There's a hint in one of the works of herodotus, the greek father of history, that she is honored by er women who will go to her temple and be paid to have sex. The payment is then offered as a tribute to the goddess but there isn't much archaeological evidence for it.
