The last time the insurrection act was used was in 19 92, in rsponse to he 19 92 riots that followed the acquittal of several los angeles police officers. So it has been used in places like detroit and los angeles to send in troops to a suppress unrest in these cities with large african american populations. In many ways, we have seen this shift from insurrection act as tool of civil rights enforcement to, in many ways, insurrection act astool of preserving a a sort of status quo that suppresses and disadvantages marginalized communities.
