Arguments can be a very adaptive response to many different minds with many different perspectives. It's not clear that reasoning, even in groups, when people are free to argue as much as they want and all that, it's not clear to lead to more, more all outcomes. On this episode we discuss the psychology of arguing and interview both Jeremy Shermer and Hugo Mercier. Afterward, I eat an orange chocolate chip cookie and read a news story about reading your partner's mood in old age.
