Is There a Distance and a Coldness in the Novel?
There's an additional element of this ideation and lust for this gentlemanly, indolent life. I don't know, there's very few characters in this book that are truly the top or seek it genuinely who are sympathetic. So much of that life is the performative nature of living it. And London itself is not described particularly attractively.
