Is There a Difference Between Academics and the Real World?
There's so many emergent behaviors, right? Like you would never be able to predict cities. Well, I think the perfect example too is just like you'll never understand the brain by studying the neuron because the neurons literally a binary system. And it's like getting very familiar with binary will not tell you how like a modern computer works either. The distinction between what academics are talking about andwhat they say we can know about the world is very different from what actually works in the streets.
“Skin in the Game is about four topics in one: a) uncertainty and the reliability of knowledge (both practical and scientific, assuming there is a difference), or in less polite words bullshit detection, b) symmetry in human affairs, that is, fairness, justice, responsibility, and reciprocity, c) information sharing in transactions, and d) rationality in complex systems and in the real world. That these four cannot be disentangled is something that is obvious when one has…skin in the game.”
