The Canadian banks are in much better shape from a market value protection basis. But that doesn't mean the bank, the book value of the bank is not at risk because the banks do not mark their loans to market. It's no difference whether it's subprime or Latin American debt back in the 1980s. No one wants to acknowledge these credit silos for real until someone says, Hey, I can buy the debt at 25 cents on the dollar.
