Coal train was playing music all the time, allegedly, with his fellowa sailors. Now, surly, much more time to continue honing his craft than others who were sent out to the battle front. He joined eddie vincent's band, jimmy heath's band, and for a year and a half, was a part of a big band led by disgy gillespie. In 19 54, duke ellington chose him to temporarily replace johnny hodges in his orchestra. But unfortunately, john coltrain's heroine addition got in the way of that, and he lost his job there. The big brake was in the mid fifties
