Baer was a young panzer officer briefed by Manchdine, who told him that Hitler would not trust anything he heard from any of the generals. He then flew to East Prussia to tell Hitler what had happened at Stalingrad. Baer described how all Göring's 'b******s' about feeding 330,000 men with air lifts were proved wrong. The German soldier died in such an accelerated fashion because this had wrecked their metabolism and they could only absorb 50% of the calories.
