What's Your Kind of Jazz Touchstones?
The LA jazz scene, I mean, everything from the central avenue clubs of the 20s and 30s. That whole scene wound up kind of migrating some of them into film for a brief moment when sound came in. ["The Star-Spangled Banner"] Because of course LA was never a kind of jazz anchor the way that Chicago or New York or New Orleans were. But partly because of Hollywood, it did have this importance.
