Shipping Ammonia as a Fuel Is a Wasteful Process

It's very expensive to convert hydrogen to an interim fuel and then turn it back into hydrogen or energy at the other end. We're already approaching the physical limits for how much energy it takes to make hydrogen out of water. One idea propounded by energy vault is basically instead of pumped hydro, you can lift blocks up using a crane and lower them down a mine shaft or from within the building.
