The Importance of Application in Preaching

Edwards was more forceful even than his Puritan progenitors in his method of application. He used the commentaries of Matthew Poole, Matthew Henry and Philip Dodridge to great advantage. Edwards urged his fellow ministers not only to ascribe to him all the glory of redemption but to increase in a sensableness of our great dependence on God.
