Polheim: A proton or neutron is a paradigmatic place where you can't ignore quantum field theory. He says the particles are strongly interacting, so they're constantly bumping into each other and interacting with each other. The space race kicked off a world in which the remaining frontiers are predominantly of the technological variety, Polheim says.
