The Importance of Productivity Gains in the Health Service
The ONS is projecting that by 2030 we'll have a third more over 85s compared to just before the pandemic. The other thing we're seeing is those real pressures in the labor market because we've got an aging population, birth rate is falling and our working age population isn't growing. We need to look to new sources of productivity gains. But as the way that we run the NHS, which is I think one of the root causes for some of our problems, is that we run it just in this firefighting short term mode.
