Syphilis - What's Salver Sand?
Early in the 20th century, you get salver sand to treat syphilis. It's arsenic based so it's not pleasant and can have very nasty side effects. Penicillin was only mass-produced after Second World War. But for those with tertiary stages of disease, treatment won't undo long term damage.
