The Story of a Grocer
Adam lever was apprenticed to his father's business at 16. He had a blinding flash of inspiration one day when he'd finished his rounds. Soap, like butter and sugar, arrived in these enormous blocks or pillars. They were then cut down to size and wrapped in grease proof paper. Lever simply swept the stuff up, put it in a box,. called it luck's flakes, which then became soap powder. Was absolutely the way we washed our clothes for the best part of a century.
