Theory of post-structuralism is that there really isn't an identity outside what we create. Steven Greenblatt was a major Harvard professor and a Shakespeare scholar in the 80s. He said, okay, if we take structuralist thinking and mix it with Marxism, what we really understand is that it really does matter that we look at the way a text was created as a historical artifact.
