The General Medical Council wants doctors with broad based skills to be produced quicker than we are at the moment. The college view was very much that we do need seven years of training. Curriculum 2024 is a balance between what the GMC wants us to do and what we believe is right. It tries to keep the seven years ofTraining, but incorporate the extra one or two years that more than 90% of trainees do as a fellowship within that curriculum.
