Napoleon's War on Genoa

Napoleon had been hoping the genoa garrison would still be in play when he engaged the austrians. The garrison's tenacity had cost them dearly, with nearly forty per cent dying of hunger or disease during the siege. Massena did eventually recover from his illness, but his health was never quite the same. He left the city two months later, thin, frail and white haired as if he'd aged tenty years.
