Canning and Preserving Food

The idea of canning and preserving was not that you r saving food in case the sky falls in. The reason that people preserve food was to extend the bounty of a harvest season for a few additional weeks or months. A big part of the reason for jam as there'se important nutrients and fruit that maybe you can't get in the dead of winter, but you can if you have jam.
