Cormac McCarthy has taken the history of the Southwest and he's created a counterfeit. The judge is the one who judges whether the thing can pass, whether the counterfeit can pass as real currency. So you have to ask if you're holding this book, if you've read this book and love this book, have you read a history of the American Southwest? No. Have you ever read ahistory of Arizona or Mexico in the 19th century? Hell no. We're all representations of the judge for all I care.
