Ashobanipal scattered the armies of elam and rounded on its capit city of susa. One assyrian carving shows what happened next. In the background, flames are rising from its towers; in the foreground, soldiers are carrying off all kinds of loot. And on the walls and towers of susa, more soldiers are going to work demolishing every building in the city, brick by brick.
