Ben-Gurion's War of Independence

The end of the British mandate had been set for midnight on May 14th. The Jewish community at that point was sorely lacking in both men and ammunition. So Ben-Gurion, it was a very joyous occasion when he read the declaration. He immediately went to deal with the military impending invasion. We see he had a diary. Said at 4 p.m. we declared independence. But I mourn amidst the rejoicers.
