Acute liver failure and acute liver injury refer to injury of the liver in persons with no prior history of liver disease. Acute liver failure really refers to again the super imposition of encephalopathy which is demonstrative of a wide spread, hepatocyte necrosis or loss of ammonia detoxification capabilities such as that carried out by hepatocytes.
