CHAPTER

How to Wrestle With a Text

I was just working on a text in Micah 4, which is about you shall beat your swords into plowshiers and your spirits into pruning hooks. And then I discovered that the verses at the end of chapter 3 are this terrible prophetic lawsuit that Jerusalem will be plowed as a field and turned into a wooded thicket. So who is this editor that had the nerve to put this incredible whacking of Jerusalem next to this vision? It's Michael 4'5 and it's just the largest scope of a humanism that I think is imaginable.
