The Rise and Fall of the Greek God Pane
In Greek mythology, Pane is the only god to ever die. He died during the reign of Tiberius Caesar, who was Caesar when Jesus was born. For many intellectuals in particular in England a century or two ago, Pan became an evocative symbol for the post-Christian cultural moment. It's kind of we're going back to the golden era of our pre-Christian past where we re-embrace our animal nature and explore wild sexuality.
