Is Propensity Matching a Randomized Controlled Trial?
Pharmacist by training, I'm a pharmacist by training and for many years I read papers that did this and didn't necessarily understand what was going on. But propensity matching is really just taking, measuring kind of everything we know about a patient from their demographics to the year they started a drug. So basically based on kind of where you are and clinically and in time and place, you know, what's your probability of getting this drug versus the other. And then we find two people that have the same probability but happen to kind of get different drugs and that's kind of mimicking randomization.
