Is RPE a Good Thing?

The body is naturally calibrating where you should be and we're just using emotion as a piece that can actually calibrate it. Poor sleep, excessive fatigue, other life stressors that are going on do influence your perception of the actual effort. We see this in the ultra running community as well, where they're very intense adverse. They don't like doing things at very high intensities because they spend copious amounts of time running at low intensities.
