Plautilla nelli was the first known florentine female renaissance artist. She set up an ald female workshop at her convent and taught younger generations of female artists to assue the men who would try and stifle their creativity. Her last supper, circa 15 60 has hung in the refectory of the santa maria novella in florence for its first public outing in 450 years. We know that she rigorously studied and copied drawings by the renaissance artist fra bartolomeo with vassari noting that she would have done marvellous things if, as men do, she had been able to study and learn to draw and work after living models
