CHAPTER

The Importance of Perception in the Nyaya System

Nyaya is a system of utter realism. By this I mean that that is real which is knowable and namable. And when I say it is knowable there is a causal relationship between that which I know and the knowledge that emerges after the process of knowing, so cause must precede effect. So a perception is a caria is an effect and perception of X then X has to precede perception of X and therefore the entire world is independent of mind.
