Is There a Hereditary Element to Ortism?

Families have often wondered if there was, or is, a hereditary element to ortism. My first study looked at whether this eye for detail was also seen in the parents of artistic children. And we found that yes, indeed, about half the fathers in our small study and about a third of the mothers were consistently really, really good at tasks requiring an eye for detail. So that suggested that this was a genetically based ability. What was a little bit more controversial, i think, was something different that we did with our twin modelling,.
