The Alaskan Hotel in Juneau, Alaska

The Alaskan Hotel in Juneau, Alaska opened its doors on September 16, 1913. The hotel was built by entrepreneurs Jules Caro and brothers James and John McCloskey. In 1880 a discovery of gold set off a gold rush that led to the founding of Juno - then known as Rockwell or Harrisburg before being named after one of the miners who discovered it. Today there are just about 30,000 people living in Juno which is only accessible by boat or plane.
