Owsley Stanley III came from a significant military family background and also served in the military himself. After leaving the service, he moved to Los Angeles where he is said to have worked for a time at Pasadena's Jet Propulsion Laboratory. Jack Parsons was the heart of it. He was doing early rocketry. And yeah, this guy was just absolutely obsessed with dark occultic stuff.
