For every 2% of energy from trans fats there's a 25% increase in cardiovascular disease risk for someone eating 2000 calories a day. The consensus on trans fats really changed in the 1990s when evidence came out showing they increased bad LDL cholesterol and reduced good HDL cholesterol which leads to an increased risk of heart disease.
