By 1422, Murad II was in full control of his empire. The Ottomans were hardly all powerful, even in their corner of the European and West Asian worlds. Huge swaths of new territory came under Ottoman control - including most of Serbia and Albania. Ali ambushed Turkmen horsemen in the hills of Anatolia. He heard the boom of cannon firing at Venetian fortress as near the Aegean. And he killed a Hungarian knight in single combat.
