How Did MAME Become a Project Lead?
MAME started as a Z80 only emulator and eventually added more, the 6502 and the 6809. The project was led by Nicola Salmoria until he had to go for military service in Italy. And then another developer took over and so it kind of was passed off from person to person. It's been doing a lot of architectural groundwork in the system to try and modernize it.
