The Future of UUVs
China is developing ever larger UUVs to take on roles that traditionally would have been assigned to crude submarines. These are essentially full-size submarines minus the crew, but they're still smaller than a full-size submarine because you don't need to carry all that crew around. Because they're uncrewed, they'll be able to use them in high-risk situations where they might not risk a crude submarine. Most, if not all, of the main AUV programs will reveal that they're at least thinking about arming their AUVs with weapons such as torpedoes.
