Crossing Your Fingers

Before christianity, superstitious people would create something called a solar cross to ward off evil spirits. Crossing fingers was about more than just good luck. It was about divine protection. If you cross your fingers behind your back, that has become associated with deception. Don't dare give somebody thumbs up in iran or afghanistan. You might just get your ass kicked.
