The Limits of Sci-Fi Communication
Sci-fi as a narrative genre has certain things that it affords to use in interaction design term. We see sort of tropes all the time that shut down communication for narrative purposes. Like Battlestar Galactica, they had actually a really good diegetic reason as to why they shouldn't be using networked communications. It's partially a constraint of what stories we can tell when everyone knows everything. And I think as time goes on and a younger generation sort of grows up expecting to know everything that the stories that they begin to tell will be a little bit different.
