The Eucharist Makes the Church

The eucharist is called communion because it brings about communion with christ and communion with the other members of the church. But how does it do this? The explanation is there in saint thomas, but the argument is is subtle. Saint augustine observed that the bread and wine are made from many grapes, a grains and grapes. And he calls the sacrament the bond of charity. It's charity that binds us together. A the eucharist binds us together by giving us charity. In otherwords, when were united to christ through the sacrament, we're bound together in love for one another.
