The Matilda Effect
The matilda effect is a term coined by historian of science margaret rossiter in 19 93. Rossiter named this effect after matilda josselyn gage, who was a suffragist and abolitionist. In the pamphlet, gauge wrote that although woman's scientific education has been grossly neglected, some of the most important inventions of the world are due to her. The mechanisms of the matilda effect, how it chips away at women's contributions, they can be hard to see.
