Is There a Pandemic of Domestic Violence?
Data came from the los angeles county domestic violence hot line, which has nothing to do with the police. There we were able to see that calls went up during the shut down, then stayed elevated after reopening. So i think that the reporting rate went up because of the advertising. In l a in particular, they had this program to set up a domestic violence victims and survivors at hotels. And just the presence of that programme may have led more people to come forward to get help. It's not necessariy that shutdowns didn't increase the propensity for domestic violence,. but perhaps there were these measures that actually did work against an increase.
