The broom fold was meant to be used against soldiers or knights in chain-mail armor. So therefore, the scimitar's not going to poke a hole through the metal. If I can't cut through the armor, I'll just break your arm. The second edge reduces the ability of the first edge. It's a trade-off between one side and the other.
