Dr. Victor Vaughn was at a base near Boston called Camp Devins, where 63 men died the day he arrived. The CDC has this fascinating storyboard all about the 1918 flu with tons of survivor and also not survivor sufferer stories told from either first person perspective or from their immediate family. I can't even imagine what it would be like to teach a class one day and realize that some of those kids wouldn't show up because they'd been killed by influenza.
